Johnny Bench hit a grand slam off Rick Rhoden in the first inning of a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 29, 1977. The home run helped the Reds to an 8-1 victory. The home run came on a 2-2 pitch from Rhoden. Bench drove the ball over the wall in left field, giving the Reds a 4-0 lead.
