Mike Mussina throws near perfect game- 9/2/2001 (65/142)

After narrowly missing a no-hitter and even a perfect game in his three previous starts, Hall of Fame pitcher Mike Mussina found himself on the brink of perfection once again. This time, he retired the first 26 Red Sox batters, coming within one strike of a perfect game. However, Carl Everett opposite-field liner ended all hopes at finally tossing a perfecto. In front of a loud Fenway Park crowd, "Moose" was able to grind out the 1-0 win for the New York Yankees.
