After establishing himself as one of baseball’s most highly regarded young talents, 21-year-old Samuel Basallo made his long-awaited debut with the Baltimore Orioles. The club’s No. 1 prospect and MLB’s No. 8 overall delivered immediately, driving in a pair of runs with his first career hit — a bases-loaded single to right center that extended Baltimore’s lead over the Astros to 12-0. Before reaching the big leagues, Basallo showcased his power and run production at Triple-A Norfolk, hitting .270 with 23 home runs and 67 RBI. Now on the Orioles’ roster, the versatile first baseman and catcher adds yet another dynamic piece to a lineup looking to become a contender for years to come.
