Ronnie James Dio was the lead vocalist for the British rock band Rainbow, which was formed by former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore in 1975. Dio joined the band shortly after its formation and recorded their debut album, "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow," which was released in August of that year. The album included the hit single "Man on the Silver Mountain," which helped to establish Rainbow as one of the premier hard rock bands of the 1970s.
